Neither wind nor rain could keep the 2019 Upfront Summit down! In January 2019, the Upfront Summit drew nearly 1,500 attendees to "Camp Upfront" over three days for discussion, networking, and of course some fun and entertainment including dinner under Air Force One, an 80-person choir, and a tale of corporate intrigue.
We heard from incredible speakers addressing the topics impacting our industry, ranging from tech, media and finance legends including Reid Hoffman, Michael Ovitz, Mellody Hobson, and Arianna Huffington, as well as entrepreneurial leaders including Ryan Smith (Qualtrics), Gwynne Shotwell (SpaceX), Gwyneth Paltrow (goop), Jamie Siminoff (Ring), Travis VanderZanden (Bird), Scott Painter (Fair/TrueCar), Ian Siegel (ZipRecruiter), Dan Broukhim (FabFitFun), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (HITRECORD) and more. We also addressed some of the key technologies and trends including AI and China with Dr. Kai-Fu Lee, voice and machine learning with Manuel Bronstein (Google Assistant), and angel syndicates with Jason Calacanis.
Beyond technology, we tackled critical political issues ranging from voting rights, housing and inequality to freedom of the press and the First Amendment with speakers including Congressman Adam Schiff, Congressman Ted Lieu, Stacey Abrams, civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson, NPR CEO Jarl Mohn, and comedian Kathy Griffin.
The Upfront Summit also featured a number of cultural and media influencers including filmmaker Ron Howard, Duff McKagan (Guns 'N Roses), and Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson.
